Giving handmade jewellery: our advice for choosing well

For a birthday, a celebration or for no particular reason: how to choose an Éclat d’océan piece as a gift, and what comes with it on its way to its recipient.

Giving jewellery means giving something that is worn close, sometimes every day. An Éclat d’océan piece adds another dimension: it exists only once. The fragment of sea glass at its heart was shaped by the waves and chosen by hand, and no other is quite like it. Here are a few pointers to choose the one that will delight.

A gift unlike any other

Every fragment of sea glass is unique in its shape, its shade and its grain. Two necklaces of the same design are therefore never strictly identical. This is what makes our creations personal gifts: the person who receives one knows that the piece is theirs, not one copy among many.

It is also a story to tell. Sea glass is an ordinary fragment that the ocean transformed with patience. Many see in it a symbol of transformation and gentleness, a lovely intention to slip into a gift.

Choosing for the person

A few ideas, depending on the habits of the person you have in mind:

  • For someone who always wears a necklace: a pendant or a necklace is noticed effortlessly. Our Necklaces & Pendants collection ranges from a drop of sea glass on a fine chain to a multi-strand necklace.
  • For someone who changes earrings every day: earrings let the sea glass play with the light, as hoops, drops or dangling designs.
  • For a discreet gift: a fine bracelet or a bangle can be worn alone or stacked, and goes with everything.
  • For sunny days: an anklet goes with bare feet and sandals; Brume salée sets starfish and shells dancing on it.

When you do not know the size

This is often the question that stops people: which size to choose for a ring? Several of our designs, such as the Vanikoro ring, are set on an adjustable band. They adapt to the finger of the person who receives them, with no need to know their size. Before ordering, look at the details on each product page, where the material and the setting are given.

Silver tone or gold tone?

Look at the jewellery the person already wears. Silver-tone stainless steel offers a bright grey, elegant and timeless, that keeps its colour without fading: it is the simplest choice for a piece worn every day, even in the shower. Gold-tone steel, enhanced with a fine layer of gold, brings a warm, luminous shade; it needs a little more attention, and we suggest adding a few words about its care to your gift.

A box worth opening

The gift begins when the parcel is opened. We pack every order with care in refined packaging, so that receiving it is already a moment of its own. And if the piece is meant for someone else, we offer, free of charge and on request when ordering, gift wrapping and a personalised message, as set out in our terms and conditions of sale.

And if the piece is not right?

A gift should bring pleasure, with no strings attached. Our jewellery comes with a satisfied or refunded promise, with returns possible within 14 days. The return conditions, in particular the state of the piece and its original packaging, are detailed in the terms and conditions of sale.

The right moment

A birthday, Mother’s Day, a graduation, a holiday departure or a simple thank you: there is no wrong occasion to give a fragment of the ocean. The finest gift is still the one that resembles the person who receives it. Take the time to browse the shop, and let a colour or a shore guide you.
