A jewellery set is a group of pieces designed to go together. With sea glass, the exercise has a particular charm: as each piece of glass is unique, no two pieces will ever be identical. Your set will therefore not be a perfectly uniform series, but a harmony of shades, like the pebbles of a single beach. Here is how to match a necklace, earrings, a bracelet and a ring without overdoing it.

What is a sea glass jewellery set?

Traditionally, a set brings together several pieces in the same style: necklace, earrings, bracelet, sometimes a ring. Today, people also speak of a demi-parure for just two pieces, for example a necklace and earrings.

In sea glass, a set relies on a common thread rather than an exact copy. At Éclat d'océan, the glass is gathered by hand on beaches and set without being recut or altered: its shape is the one the sea gave it. Even within a set, each piece therefore keeps its own personality. To understand this material better, read our article on sea glass shaped by the waves.

The three rules for matching sea glass jewellery

One finish only

This is the simplest and most effective rule. Choose between silver-tone and gold-tone, and stick to it for the whole set. Our stainless steel settings come in both finishes, presented on our materials page. If you are unsure, our guide gold or silver jewellery helps you decide according to your complexion and your habits.

One dominant glass colour

Moss green, the most common shade in our collection, makes an excellent common thread: it appears on most of our necklaces, earrings and rings. Frosted white and clear glass create softer, almost luminous sets. Lagoon blue and caramel brown are best used as an accent, on a single piece. To find out more, see our article on sea glass colours and their rarity.

One shared motif, or none

Leaves, starfish, seashells, coral: our jewellery draws on motifs from the shoreline. A successful set picks one and repeats it, or lets the sea glass speak for itself. Mixing starfish, leaves and shells across four pieces muddles the message.

Four ready-made sets to put together

For inspiration, here are combinations built solely from pieces in our collection. Each piece remains available on its own.

The minimalist silver-tone set

The double chains of the necklace and bracelet echo each other, and the ring stays deliberately simple. This is a set to wear every day.

The sunny gold-tone set

Combine the gold-tone Celestún necklace, with its frosted sea glass, the Sable d'or hoops, the gold-tone Pelagos bracelet and the gold-tone Vanikoro ring with clear sea glass. The gold tone warms the whole set, while the frosted and clear glass keep it light.

The starfish set

The starfish motif links the Nerea earrings, in gold-tone steel with green sea glass and a starfish, and the gold-tone Nerita bracelet, a bangle combining sea glass with a starfish. Add a necklace without a motif so the look does not become overloaded.

The foliage set

In silver-tone, the Naïade earrings and their engraved leaves go beautifully with the silver-tone Victoire bracelet and its foliage chain. In gold-tone, the Snapper Rocks ring, with its leaf motif, sits naturally alongside the gold-tone Victoire bracelet.

How many pieces should you wear at once?

A complete set is rarely worn in full. For everyday wear, two or three pieces are enough: a necklace and earrings, or earrings, a bracelet and a ring. Save all four pieces for occasions when your outfit is very simple, a plain dress or a top without a pattern, so the jewellery remains the focus.

Another useful principle: only one statement piece. If you wear the Rivage necklace, generous with its sea glass, cowrie shells, starfish and seashells, pair it with discreet studs rather than large drop earrings. Conversely, very striking earrings call for a fine necklace or no necklace at all.

Frequently asked questions

Are the pieces in a set identical?

No, and that is intentional. Sea glass is never recut or altered, so each piece keeps the shape and shade the sea gave it. The pieces in a set share a finish, a dominant colour and sometimes a motif, but each one remains unique. The result looks more natural than a perfectly uniform set.

Can you mix silver-tone and gold-tone in a set?

It is possible, but trickier. If you mix them, do it decisively and in a balanced way, for example two pieces in each tone, with the sea glass as the link between them. For a set given as a gift or for a first ensemble, it is better to stay with a single finish, which is easier to wear.

How should you store a sea glass jewellery set?

Store each piece separately, away from moisture, so the chains do not tangle and the pieces do not knock against each other. Before putting them away, wipe them with a soft dry cloth. Our article on storing your jewellery describes several simple solutions for home and travel.

Where can I find all the pieces to build my set?

The whole collection is in the shop, sorted by category: necklaces and pendants, earrings, bracelets, rings and anklets. Every order is packed in a jewellery box, and delivery is free in France on orders of 79 € or more, which makes a complete set all the more accessible.
